30×N — AZL2 is the fifth release in a series originating from 30×N, an audiovisual performance by @c + Visiophone in which a modular system and three performers interacting in a generative composition with sound, lights, and visuals. 30×N explores using computers as agents and creative partners, with each performance emerging from the meeting between them and the performers.

Each release in this series includes fixed-media audio and audiovisual compositions created from the materials of one of the performance’s sections, exploring and further expanding the original materials and bringing them into new contexts. Furthermore, the same sonic materials are also delivered to other composers that contribute guest remixes. In this release, the remixes are by Marta Zapparoli and Luís Fernandes.

Anamorphosis is an altered auditory reality that returns to its original form across a surge of psycho-sonic multidimensional worlds. These sonic worlds evolve and contaminate one another across multilayered, slow textures, forming a collective memory that carries the flow back to its origin again and again, like an eternal loop.

Silhouettes is based almost entirely on material provided by @c, filtered through a Eurorack system. A selection of original tracks with a more pronounced dynamic range served as a source for extracting voltages that dictate the amplitude of another set of tracks, this time processed and saturated by the same system. To this formula a pulse was added, the only element external to the original material, which serves as the rhythmic foundation of the track.

Marta Zapparoli is a Berlin-based Italian sound artist, improviser, composer, performer, and researcher active in sound art since 2003. Her work explores the invisible electromagnetic spectrum through site-specific, performances, self made recordings and sonic experimentation. Using antennas (some hand-made), radio receivers, a wide range of analogue technology, she investigates “Technological Nature” and the “other-than-human” voices, fostering awareness of our cosmic connections, offering new perspectives of our anthropogenic reality, and deep listening as political practice. Since 2010 She is a member of Splitter Orchester (an ensemble of 24 musicians focusing on improvised music and experimentation) and numerous international collectives, like Pareidolia (with Liz Allbee), Vertigo Transport (with Burkhard Beins), THE ELKS (with Liz Allbee, Kai Fagaschinski, Billy Roisz), M.Z.A.L. (with Albrecht Loops), Liminal Resonatrix (with Sebastian Hofmann, Martin Lorenz), among others.

Luís Fernandes is a musician, sound artist and curator based in Braga, Portugal. His work is developed within the domains of musical composition, performance and art curating. Besides a consistent work in the exploratory electronic music domain, he has collaborated with a wide range of artists, including some key figures of modern Portuguese music and international artists, such as Hans-Joachim Roedelius, Rhys Chatham and Toshimaru Nakamura. He also composes music for cinema, video and installations.

This release is part of the 30×N series.
