The two compositions emerge from the installation Attuning to / resonating with (Aomori), presented at the Aomori Contemporary Art Center, in Japan, in 2023 as part of the Energies in the Rural project, curated by Leandro Pisano, Yukiko Shikata and Aya Murakami.
The installation explored the concepts of attunement and resonation through sound and listening by focusing on the production and management of energy within Aomori prefecture. It aimed at creating a space where to reflect on the agency of more-than-human bodies and materialities experimenting ways to get closer and to grasp their own “voices” by attuning to and resonate with their specific sounds and vibrations. Understanding listening practice as a crucial step toward such goal, the installation pointed at envisioning new and much needed politics of cohabitation on the earth in face of the current political and ecological crisis.
Focusing on Aomori prefecture, and particularly on its old and new forms of energy production and management (from fishery to nuclear and wind energy), the installation provided a series of listening spots where human positionality was always challenged and visitors while visitors were encouraged to engage with the subtle and affective dimension of Aomori’s sonic energies.
