From May 2019 to January 2020, Pedro Tudela presented the large-scale installation âawdiËtÉrjuâ at MAAT, the Museum of Art, Architecture, and Technology, in Lisbon. âawdiËtÉrjuâ, the phonetic transcription of the word âauditĂłrioâ (Portuguese for auditorium), was curated by Miguel von Hafe PĂ©rez, and presented at the Boiler Hall of MAAT, as an immersive experience that combined a sound work that coexisted with a sculpture and two installations in a carefully choreographed balance of elements that were either in suspension or collapsing to gravity. Moving sounds of bells reverberated in the space of the Boiler Hall, sometimes revealed quite literally, sometimes masked with several degrees of digital processing. The bell was also a trope to be found on all the physical objects, again either literal or transformed in various degrees.
As an epilogue to âawdiËtÉrjuâ, Tudela now presents an artist edition of a limited box-set containing: a transparent vinyl, a booklet with photos from the installation by AndrĂ© Cepeda, and a silk-screen by Pedro Tudela. The vinyl includes a fragment of a recording of the installation at MAAT and a new (re)composition, in studio, using sound materials from the installation. These two pieces are also published independently in a digital version available for streaming or download.
