X-RUN-4 prismatique is a site specific recording created in a huge hall situated near the Lisbon Airport runway. All the random sounds generated by the proximity to the runway enter the recording as they happened and are an essential contribute to the music that intentionally integrates these sonorities and the sonic characteristics of the surrounding space. X-RUN-4 prismatique is almost like an audio phonic, musical radio play formed by totally free improvised sonic expressions and the playing of the violoncello with the idea of a global sound resource itself. The percussive interventions are created by accidently found materials and objects of the space. All the music is played in the moment as real time composition – just as free instant music.

Ulrich Mitzlaff completed his cello studies in the seventies at TĂĽbingen (Germany) with Professor Stefan ZarnescĂş. Since 1996 he lives in Lisbon, Portugal, where he works as cellist and composer of contemporary and experimental music, improvisation, free-jazz, conceptual composition and sound-art. He collaborates with various artists in multidisciplinary and electro-acoustic projects and he is member of the art-association Granular.

At the moment, he participates in projects as the Duo I/O, electro-acoustic music with Carlos Santos; the “Zíngaro” / Mitzlaff / Viegas / Rosso - 4tet with Carlos “Zíngaro”, João Pedro Viegas and Alvaro Rosso; the duo Albert Cirera / Ulrich Mitzlaff; the duo Ulrich Mitzlaff / Miguel Mira, presenting free improvised music and surprising sound creations; the quintet Nuova Camerata with Pedro Carneiro, Carlos “Zíngaro”, João Camões, and Miguel Leiria Pereira; Separados Frutos, an experimental music and spoken word formation with Nuno Rebelo, Vera Mantero and Manuel Guimarães; the Open Speech TRIO with Carlos Bechegas and Carlos Santos; the trio Carlos Bechegas / Carlos “Zíngaro” / Ulrich Mitzlaff and the Fruit Music Quartet with Franziska Schroeder, Pedro Carneiro and Pedro Rebelo.

With Carlos “Zíngaro” he performed in many different constellations and formations that had a significant impact on his playing. The same is to say about his collaborations with Nuno Rebelo, Carlos Bechegas, Carlos Santos, Albert Cirera and Miguel Mira.

He created music for dance, film, and performance, and performed extensively, with e.g. Albert Cirera, Kurt Laurenz Theinert, Fried Dähn, Rodrigo Amado, Emídio Buchinho, Reinhold Friedl, Mark Trayle, Gascia Ouzounian, Vitor Joaquim, Thomas Maos, Thollem McDonas, Stefano de Bonis, Josep-Maria Balanyà, Chris Brown, Han-earl Park, Bart Maris, Miguel Cardoso, Pedro Lopes, Hernâni Faustino, Stefano Zorzanello, Dan Goren, Dominic Lash, Gregg Moore, Liba Villavecchia, Paulo Curado, Bertrand Gauguet, Steven Davis, Gustavo Aguilar, Miguel Leiria Pereira, Ernesto Rodrigues, Mark Whitecage, Phill Niblock, and the Lisbon Improvisation Players of Rodrigo Amado.
